SSTV

One of the more interesting modes for me with amateur radio has been SSTV - Slow Scan Television. Using a fire sale Radio Shack 10 meter radio,a Linux box, QSSTV and some awk based scripting code, I set up an automatic SSTV webcam. The webcam should be up most time listening to the SSTV pics on 10 meters (29.680 MHz). As 10 meters is pretty quiet these days, theres not much to see most days.

The 10 meter webcam has been up and running for over a year. Some intersting DX has shown up from time to time and can be seen at: http://oddjob.yi.org:8888/qsstv/archive/dx/index.html

The idea for doing an SSTV webcam came from KE5RS's (John). SSTV webcam. John's FTP Widget program makes it pretty easy to setup a webcam on a windows machine.

I've also setup a live SSTV webcam that shows pictures from my main HF radio when I'm operating SSTV. That cam is at: http://oddjob.yi.org:8888/sstv.live.

Some SSTV webcams I've helped friends setup are:
